Disadvantage of using hand sanitizers and mask

Hand sanitizers




There are basically two types of hand sanitizers. 


1. Alcohol-based hand sanitizers. 
Alcohol-based hand sanitizers contain 60% to 90% alcohol that kills germs. 

2. Non - Alcohol hand sanitizers.
Non-alcohol based hand sanitizers contain an antibiotic compound called triclosan or triclocarban kill germs.


Disadvantage of using Alcohol-based hand sanitizers. 

1. Alcohol toxicity


  • Most liquid hand sanitizers contain a large amount of ethyl or isopropyl alcohol. Therefore, they should be stored out of your child’s reach and only used with adult supervision.
  • Alcohol toxicity can even lead to alcohol poisoning.
2.  Risk of fire


  • Alcohol-based hand sanitizers are classified as Class I Flammable Liquid substances.
  • They can easily catch fire.
  • They can catch fire at flash point of 25 degree Celsius.

3.  Damage skin and Risk of infection 



  • When used too frequently, alcohol-based hand sanitizers can wash away your skin’s natural oils, which can cause drying and cracking.
  • Make your skin Dehydrated.
It cause following damage 
  • Redness
  • Itching  
  • Deep cracks that may bleed.
  • Gray, ashy skin color.     
Disadvantage of using Non-Alcohol hand sanitizers. 

Non-alcohol based hand sanitizers contain an antibiotic compound called triclosan or triclocarban.

1. Make your Immune System Weaker.


  • Researchers found that triclosan may negatively affect human immune function.
  • Children and teens with higher levels of triclosan were more likely to be diagnosed with hay fever and other allergies.
2. Hormone Disruption.
  • Another effect of triclosan is hormone problems.

  • The research shows triclosan may lead to hormonal  disruptions and cause bacteria to adapt to its antimicrobial properties, which creates more antibiotic-resistant strains.
3. Antibiotic Resistance.
  • Triclosan contributes to making bacteria resistant to antibiotics.
  • Using hand sanitizers may actually lower your resistance to diseases by killing good bacteria, which helps protect against bad bacteria. 
If your hand sanitizer is scented (smell). 
  • Synthetic fragrances contain phthalates, which are endocrine disrupters that mimic hormones and could alter genital development.
  • It loaded with toxic chemicals.

1. Influence on heart rate and thermal stress.


The research show that N95 and surgical facemasks can induce significantly different temperatures and humidity in the microclimates of facemasks, which have profound influences on heart rate and thermal stress and subjective perception of discomfort.

2. They can mess with your eyesight (you are infecting yourself).

Wearing the face mask makes the exhaled air go into the eyes this generates an uncomfortable feeling and an impulse to touch your eyes. If your hands are contaminated you are infecting yourself.

3.They can spread diseases if not washed.


4.They can restrict your air flow.

Face mask worsen their breathlessness moreover, a fraction of carbon dioxide previously exhaled is inhaled at each respiratory cycle. Those two phenomena increase breathing frequency and deepness hence they increase the amount of inhaled and exhaled air.

5.They can cause skin irritation.

6. They can hurt children under two – or other who are incapacitated.

7. They can force you to inadvertently draw closer during conversation.

The quality and the volume of speech between  two people wearing mask is considerably compromised and they may unconsciously come closer. 

8.  Face mask may give a false sense of security.

Wearing a face mask may give a false sense of security and make people adopt a reduction in compliance with other infection control measures, including social distancing and hands washing.
